SIESTA KEY, FL – The Revere Quality House in Siesta Key, Florida – a prototype residence originally built in 1949 that was meant to represent the “modernist house of the future” – has been listed for sale on the real estate market for $8.5 million

Designed by architects Paul Rudolph and Ralph Twitchell, the Revere Quality House is comprised of rectangular forms and synthetic materials, and at one point represented the Sarasota School of Architecture’s official hallmark in terms of design.

However, over the years since it was built, the 1,000 square-foot house – located on Bayou Louise Lane – fell into a state of disrepair and was often overlooked by buyers during previous attempts to sell it due to its relatively small size when compared to your average waterfront estate.

An attempt to address this issue was made in 2003, when Doug Olson and developer Howard Rooks bought the property and proceeded to build a 4,755-square-foot modernist mansion on the 0.68-acre plot of land, turning the Revere House into a guesthouse to compliment the new main dwelling.

100 OGDEN STREET, SARASOTA – $8,500,000.00

The newer residence’s design echoes that of the Revere House to preserve the property’s visual continuity, with a wide-open interior and floor-to-ceiling windows, glass walls, steel columns, concrete exteriors, and terrazzo floors. In addition, the new main house also boasts a swimming pool, a motor court, and exquisitely landscaped greenery including numerous trees.

The ground floor features two bedrooms, a great room, a kitchen, and a dining room; the second floor is mainly comprised of the primary bedroom that is accessible by either elevator or a staircase. And on the roof – which offers views of the Gulf – there is a bar, gas firepit, and built-in furniture.

The main house was then later updated in 2017, at which time it was sold for $2.5 million, a far cry from its new and current asking price of $8.5 million.
